Creative Community Engagement in Kingswood Park
Penrith City Council (1 other project)
Integrated Cultural Policy Implementation - Award Winner Division C
Demonstrating innovation in creative community engagement and leadership in an integrated approach to Cultural Policy Implementation, Penrith City Council has collaborated with local residents, artists and local service providers in the renewal of Kingswood Park, an established neighbourhood identified as experiencing relative social disadvantage.
Key outcomes include the active participation of local residents in place-making projects and empowering community to directly inform policy from the ground up. This is evidenced by the Kingswood Park Neighbourhood Action Plan realising key actions of the Cultural Development Action Plan 2007 – 2011.
Key micro projects include: the highly successful Parkour + Krump Summer Workshops presented in partnership with Information Cultural Exchange (ICE), where 40 young residents learned cutting edge movement skills from artists Ali Kadhim and Dario Phillips, and “Dreaming Up Our Park” with artist David Capra, giving local residents direct input into the design and planning processes of a playground in their neighbourhood!
