Casula Powerhouse Redevelopment
The Casula Powerhouse Redevelopment represents an investment in cultural practice in South West Sydney which began when Liverpool City Council purchased a decommissioned 1950s power station in 1976. Upon its completion in 2008 the Casula Powerhouse was transformed into a multi-faceted cultural centre housing: a 326-seat theatre, 9 galleries (including a climate controlled gallery and storage facility), artist residency and studios, performance studio, cafe/bar facilities and 20 hectares of open space for public use – giving South West Sydney residents access to high quality arts and cultural events in their own backyard.
The Casula Powerhouse is staffed by professional arts workers all of whom have a commitment to contributing to a cohesive society through compelling cultural programs that are relevant and engaging to South West Sydney communities. Its vision is to build a dynamic creative industry for the region based on respectful relationships between audiences and stakeholders.
