Work for the Dole participants immersed in audio-visual explorations

In a Federally funded partnership for the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) between Camden Council, the Camden Historical Society and MTC Work Solutions, Work for the Dole participants have taken part in a three-phase 78-week program to transfer Camden Museum’s collection of oral histories from audiocassette to the digital medium.

The award winning Camden Creative Studios conducted this project. By expanding the scope of the exercise to include audio-visual explorations, the digital media project was an opportunity for participants to become familiar with and up-skill in a broad range of information design and multimedia technology areas, which could also increase their employment prospects.

The Historical Society now has a collection of oral histories that are more readily available and the Work for the Dole participants have enjoyed significant insights while contributing to the new and diverse ways in which Camden’s stories are expressed.
