Presidents' Message
Welcome to the home of the NSW Local Government Cultural Awards.
Here we recognise encouragement, development and support by councils for local artists and communities. The projects demonstrate the range and strength of Local Government arts involvement and commitment.
Many councils have long understood the positive impact cultural development can have economically, environmentally and socially – an instrumental approach.
This is balanced by finding value in arts practice without an end point or result in mind. The idea is similar to ‘pure’ or ‘basic’ research in science, where if we begin without defining the outcome, truly new solutions are possible.
Regardless of our understanding of culture, most of us have at some point experienced a change in our own personal worldview, catalysed by art.
